This years hottest gifts!

The holidays are coming!

This years biggest gifts seem to be Swagways, Xbox One, Marvel Infinity 3.0 and anything else in the Toys R’ Us or Target toy catalog.  My kids of course want Swagways! I’ve been researching like crazy and have been drawn in by the ads you see for $129 just to find out it’s just for a carrying bag. ($129 for a bag, it better be made of silk)

In my pursuit of a deal I found many reviews of these so called “discounted” units to find that so many of them break after a few weeks with no warranty or what they thought was a warranty but wasn’t.  Made me realize why save a few bucks now to deal with a headache later?  So sorry Amazon, even with my free Prime shipping I’m not ordering from some guy who calls himself “generic”.

I then had the bright idea to go to the source and low and behold you can order directly from Swagway, with free shipping, they have all the colors you could be looking for and ship out quickly.  So one for both my kids and I’m hoping Santa brings them a hospital gift card because I have a feeling they will need it lol. Order from here to buy directly and save the headache! Use code swag-79A692BCTH to save $10 off your first purchase!

AHHH a hurricane!

Why do people get so paranoid when a hurricane is predicted? Living on Long Island there has to be either a hurricane or snow storm predicted to hit us at least once a year but every time people freak out.  Gas lines get crazy, bread, eggs, milk and water bottles disappear from stores. Everyone’s Facebook posts begin looking the same with a photo of the local weather doppler.  Then when nothing happens we get posts of everyone eating French toast because they didn’t want all that bread, eggs and milk going bad.

I blame media for creating a circus, they hype these storms up for no reason. Granted when Superstorm Sandy hit maybe they didn’t prepare people enough but we live on an Island!! If you can see water from your home you should already be prepared for a major storm, if you’re not then you need to move to a home that you don’t need to maintain so much.

I enjoy a good storm, I loved Hurricane Gloria in 1985.  We had no power for a week, no school, got to watch trees fall around the house. To a 9 year old it was awesome!! Fast forward 30 years, as a parent and home owner I look at the trees around my house and wish I had cut them down years ago and only think about it when a good wind comes through.

I’m disappointed Joaquin will not hit us, (as of now there is a 10% chance he still will) but if anything we have enough gas to take a road trip, enough propane to last till next year and we will be having French toast for dinner one day next week.

Thanks for reading my babble! 🙂

What a difference a year makes!

It’s been a year since I posted, where is the time going?  I can honestly say I am in a much better place than I was a year ago and I love it!! I am loving all the rustic Items we have had in the store and are still adding more and more every month.  Who would have thought tote bags and funky leggings would be so big this year lol.

I started an awesome job in October 2014 in a school district. I get to work in the administration offices in the technology department so that means, little contact with teachers and kids and only have to work 6 hours a day in the summer! SCORE!! This is the first job I’ve had in many years that I can honestly say I do not mind getting up in the morning and going to.

Now of course it isn’t as fun as my Rustic Shop job but that’s more fun then a real job any day 🙂 Share unique fun items and get 30% of a sale. LOVE IT!!

Don’t forget to check out my store and see what’s new.  Shop Now!

I hate opinionated moms!

I am a working mom!

I have worked past my due date with both pregnancies (my daughter was 4 days late and my son was 11 days late, he still runs on his own schedule 9 years later) and I went back to work 6 weeks after both my kids were born. I know my children are well cared for while I am at work. I save my sick days for if my kids get sick and my husband and I share class visits during the school year. This has worked for 12 years now.

I am lucky that my kids spend the day with my parents, I paid them when they were little to care for them and now that they are older and pretty much care for themselves I do not pay them any more. They get the school bus there and they have a daily routine.

I work because I want to, I like bringing in money to the household and letting us go on trips during the year or being able to eat out once a week. I tried staying home last week for 3 months I went out of my mind! I spent my day on the computer looking for a job!!

I work for a company now that is run by two very religious and self righteous people. The office manager (my direct boss) constantly preaches to us about how a mother should be home with her children and the man should be out working as many jobs as he needs to and he should also be responsible for all the bills so he knows how much money he needs to make. WHAT!!!

This is the same woman who is on divorce number two and after number one she had to live in her car with her two small children because she had to clue how to support herself! Her current husband has been cheating on her for years but she knows god will change his heart and bring him back to her.

Yeah I will not be taking any advice from you whack-o!

Schools out for Summer!!!

I love when school is over for the year! Not only do my kids get in better moods, less traffic and we have more time as a family to do things. We love going for long walks or going to the beach in the evening (when it’s free) or getting frozen yogurt! During school we get stuck with homework for 2 hours a night, can’t really do anything fun than.  I don’t know what teachers think families do at night.

This is our nightly schedule during school

5:00-6:00 pm: Cook dinner and help with homework

6:00-6:30 pm: Eat dinner

6:30-7:30 pm More Homework

7:30-8:30 pm Showers

8:30-9:30 pm: Reading and writing about reading

9:30-10:00 pm Brush teeth and go to bed

So if we have one extra thing to do, Little League game, have to go shopping, want to take a walk, etc. it feels impossible! I don’t know what families do that work later or when the kids are in multiple activities. If the kids don’t complete one thing of their homework they get punished by missing recess, not to make up the homework, just to be punished.

Yay for summer vacation!!!!

I’m one of those

I’m one of those people who is always looking for the next big thing! I once owned stock in Yahoo but sold it because it wasn’t earning quick enough for me. (yup, dumb move) I only did a year of college because within a year I was running the campus bookstore and I saw how useless the professors who were supposed to be teaching me about business were in real life. I got more knowledge and experience doing than sitting and listening to some old dude go on and on about the time he shopped at a business.

Oddly enough in the last 20 years I haven’t had too many jobs. I usually stick around a few years at least till something better comes along. But…on the other side I have tried so many different direct sales companies. I keep hoping I will find one that sticks. Can’t blame a girl for trying to make some extra money for her family right? I’ve tried vitamin /diet companies, jewelry companies (you know those floating lockets are all the rage) and now I am trying something totally different. I signed on to be an affiliate for a company, all I have to do is get people to order from my site and I get paid. No annoying parties, no stock taking up space on my dining room table, no monthly fee that usually costs more than I make anyway. Yay, right?  Well I guess we will see, it’s been a month and I’ve already more money than I did with any of my other ventures.  Stop on by anytime http://www.LongIslandRusticShop.com

Did I mention it's Thursday?

Did I mention it’s Thursday?

Hump Day, WTF?

So who decided to make Wednesday a national day of celebration for camels? Are marketing managers that bored and running out of ideas they needed to take this poor animal who would rather spit at you than celebrate a day of the week and make him a symbol? Wouldn’t bunnies getting it on make more sense? In the beginning it was cute but now it’s so over done it’s annoying. There’s always that one person in Wal-Mart sporting a “Hump Day” t-shirt and looking like they would be happy being licked by a camel no less being “humped”. Where is society headed if we take something so simple and do it over and over? What are they even marketing at this point? Camel rides, trips to a dessert, I can’t think of anything that camel can help me sell! Yes it’s Wednesday and for many people the middle of the work week. Even that obligatory “getting over the hump” has nothing to do with a camel other than a camel has a hump. Just my random thoughts for the day. Stay Rustic everyone!

Monday again?

Lately it seems the weekends are so full of things to do that Monday comes before I know it. I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog day. hitting the alarm button again and again. Is this a bad thing? They say time flies when you’re having fun; I must be having a blast and don’t realize it.  I like to look back on my weekends come Monday morning and think about all the fun things we did as a family or the time we actually got to relax. Between Little League games, shopping we can’t done during the week or spending time helping family it always seems like the weekends are never long enough.  Monday comes and smacks you in the face, and you regret staying up past midnight trying to catch up on a project or checking your Facebook new feed. Well, I’ll blink and it will be Friday again.
